The trading journal built for MetaTrader 4 traders

MT4 statement — HTML · AI screenshot import

Journal your MT4 trades two ways — save the Detailed Report from Account History or upload an AI-read screenshot. See what every trading mistake costs in $.

MT4 tells you the balance. It never tells you the habit.

MetaTrader 4's Account History gives you the number to the cent — last month you were up, or down, this much. What the terminal can't show you is that half of your worst EUR/USD losses were revenge entries taken minutes after a stop-out, or that your Friday-afternoon trades quietly bled −$1,900 across the month. PnL Book is a trading journal built for exactly that blind spot — it turns your MT4 Detailed Report into round-trip trades, lets you tag the mistakes, and totals what each habit costs you in dollars.

The reason most trading journals die is data entry, so getting your MetaTrader 4 trades in is the part we've made almost free: the Detailed Report export MT4 already gives you, or an AI that reads a screenshot of your terminal — the only path that works from the MT4 mobile app, which has no file export at all.

Two ways to get your MetaTrader 4 trades in

MT4 statement — HTML. MT4's own Detailed Report — the cleanest export MetaTrader 4 gives you, with every closed deal.

  • In MT4, open the Terminal (Ctrl+T) and click the Account History tab.
  • Right-click inside the tab, choose Custom Period (or All History) to set the date range, then right-click again and pick Save as Detailed Report.
  • Save the HTML file, then in PnL Book go to Import → MT4/MT5 statement — HTML and upload it.
  • Review the parsed rows and commit — closed deals become round-trip trades, and duplicates from overlapping exports are skipped.

AI screenshot import. A screenshot of your MT4 terminal or mobile app becomes journal entries in seconds — handy on mobile where there is no file export.

  • Take a screenshot of your closed-trades, positions or orders screen — keep the whole table visible, no popups over the numbers.
  • In PnL Book, choose Import → Screenshot — any broker or platform and upload up to 5 images (PNG/JPG). AI reads the symbols, sizes, prices and timestamps.
  • Every parsed row lands in a review queue first — anything the AI wasn't sure about is highlighted and duplicates are flagged. Nothing is saved until you commit.

Then price the mistakes

Importing is the boring half. Once your MetaTrader 4 trades are in, tag the ones that broke your plan — revenge trade, oversized lot, moved stop, held a loser too long — and PnL Book totals the dollar cost of each habit per month. Oversized lots: −$2,300 this month reads very differently from “I need to size down.” It's the difference between a resolution and an invoice. If you're trading a challenge, the same idea underpins journaling on a funded account, and the full method is in how to journal your MT4 and MT5 trades.

Frequently asked questions

How do I export my trade history from MetaTrader 4?

Open the Terminal (Ctrl+T), click Account History, right-click and set a Custom Period, then right-click again and choose Save as Detailed Report. That saves an HTML file — upload it unchanged in PnL Book's import wizard. The Detailed Report carries the per-deal rows a journal needs.

Does the MT4 import work for prop firm and funded accounts?

Yes. Any account you can log into in MetaTrader 4 — funded, challenge or personal — produces the same Detailed Report, so the import works the same way whichever prop firm runs the server.

My MT4 is on mobile with no export — can I still journal?

Yes. The MT4 mobile app has no file export, so screenshot import is the fallback: photograph your history or positions screen and AI reads the symbols, lots, prices and times. Every row goes to a review queue before anything is saved.

Will PnL Book give me forex signals or trade ideas?

No. PnL Book analyzes your own past MT4 trades — it prices your mistakes in $ and surfaces your patterns. It never gives trading signals, tips or profit promises, and it is not affiliated with MetaTrader or MetaQuotes.
