The fallback that turned out to be the fastest path
Every one of PnL Book’s 14 direct broker and exchange imports exists because a platform publishes a clean file or an API. Not every platform does — MT4 and MT5 on mobile have no export at all, prop-firm platforms like TradeLocker and DXtrade vary their column layout broker to broker, and sometimes you just don’t want to hunt through a reports menu for four trades. Screenshot import handles all of it the same way: take a picture of your positions, orders or P&L screen, upload it, and the AI reads what’s on the screen straight into journal entries.
What it actually reads, and where it stops
Upload up to 5 images (PNG or JPG) in one go. The AI extracts symbols, quantities, fill prices and timestamps from the pixels — it does not guess at a number it can’t see. Every parsed row lands in a review queue before anything is written to your journal: fields the AI wasn’t confident about are highlighted for a second look, and duplicate fills — say, from a screenshot that overlaps one you uploaded yesterday — are flagged automatically. You commit the batch only after you’ve checked it, the same review step every file and API import goes through.
Built for the platforms that keep changing
This is the whole point for a funded or multi-platform trader: firms migrate between MT4/MT5, TradeLocker, DXtrade and cTrader without warning, and a journal that syncs over a broker API breaks every time that happens. Screenshot import doesn’t care what renders the numbers on screen — desktop or mobile, any of those five platforms or an Indian broker’s app or a crypto exchange’s history tab. If your firm switches platforms next quarter, this import path doesn’t notice.
When it beats the “proper” export
A file export usually wins for a full month of history — bulk beats one screen at a time. Screenshot import earns its place at the other end: three trades you want logged before you forget the setup, a broker app that only shows history on a screen with no download button at all, or a prop-firm platform mid-migration where nobody’s quite sure the CSV export still matches the new column layout. It’s the fast path for a handful of trades and the only path when there’s no export to reach for.
Same trade, same engine, either way in
A trade that arrives by screenshot is treated identically to one that arrives by CSV or API once it’s committed — the same FIFO round-trip pairing, the same analytics, the same eligibility for mistake tags and behavioural flags. The import method is just how the fill got in the door; it has no bearing on how PnL Book reads it afterwards.
Frequently asked questions
How many screenshots can I upload at once?
Up to 5 images (PNG or JPG) in one go — enough for a full day's positions or history screen across a couple of scrolls.
What if the AI misreads a number?
Every field it isn't confident about is highlighted in the review queue before anything saves, so you catch a misread quantity or price the same way you'd catch a typo — by looking at it once, not by trusting it blindly.
What stops me from importing the same screenshot twice?
Duplicate fills are detected automatically and flagged in the review queue, so re-uploading an overlapping screenshot or the same screen twice doesn't double your trade count.
Which platforms is this actually built for?
Anywhere a file export is missing or awkward: TradeLocker, DXtrade and cTrader (prop-firm platforms that vary by broker), MT4/MT5 on mobile (no export at all there), and any Indian broker or crypto exchange screen when you'd rather not dig through a reports menu.
